J. M. Flagg was a western artist who specialized in depicting portraits of prominent historical characters as well as the cowboy lifestyle with oils on canvas. The art was then combined with intricate wood carving frames by one of Scottsdale Arizona's most famous artists during the mid-20th century, Dee Flagg. Dee was very active with his sculpture work in the 1950's.

Dee Flagg left his mark on the left side of the frame in two ways:

This is part of the private art collection of the Robson family and was purchased in the 1980's as a collection of 3 paintings from relatives of the artist.
